She has received offers from eight world’s top universities including Cornell University and Duke University. She finally decided to accept a PhD program of molecular biology (full scholarship) of Princeton University.

As an undergraduate student, she published papers in nature communications as a 7th author, participated in Poster Exhibition in the Department of molecular biology of Princeton University, made friends with like-minded students in Tsinghua University's nerve and cognition summer camp, and practiced in the University of Edinburgh and Zhejiang University for scientific research.

At the same time, she is enthusiastic about participating in public affairs services, such as introducing the campus, sharing TOEFL experience, academic guidance and curriculum representatives. As a member of the Communist Party, she has never forgotten her original intention and mission of serving her classmates.

Her name is Jiang Lifei. She is one of the first batch of dual degree undergraduates from the Zhejiang University and University of Edinburgh Institute. She will graduate this summer.

In the 2016 college entrance examination, Jiang Lifei ranked 852 in Zhejiang Province with 702 scores, aiming at the dream Zhejiang University. When choosing a major, she confessed that like many candidates, she felt very confused.

But it's clear that of all the subjects, biology is her favorite. During the period of filling in the application, at that time, 2012 cohort of ZJU biomedical students were about to graduate. Their graduation destination and their speeches deeply touched her, as if she saw the future she wanted. "Intuitively, this major will open up a bigger world for me and find something I love," she said

She hopes to become a university professor in the future and study the most cutting-edge things in human health, which is what ZJE can help her achieve.

When she first came into contact with this major, her first challenge was to adapt to the environment of English teaching. This is a gradual and long process: Freshman English class and paper writing training helped her improved English level; in the International Campus, she has made many international friends, experienced multiple cultures, and strengthened her oral expression ability; English courses and assignments (papers, presentations) have made her accustomed to thinking in English and improved her English Language writing and expression.

"The best way to learn a language is to be immersed in it all the time," she said. "The international campus provides me with an environment where I can immerse myself in English."

The second challenge is how to improve the ability of time management and overcome procrastination.

The university is an independent and free place, which means that we are no longer required by teachers to complete our homework, but we need to arrange our own time to complete the task within the specified time limit (DDL).

There are three main ways to overcome procrastination. The first one is to complete the idea first and then perfect it. Second is finish task early and set aside enough time for yourself to modify and perfect it. Also, you can also find classmates to review your works and listen to others' opinions and suggestions.

The second point is the environmental effect. When she doesn't want to study alone, she will study in the library with four or five classmates. Students can supervise and promote each other and help each other overcome inertia. During the epidemic period, she studied at home and had lectures online. She launched the "online self-study room" activity, inviting her classmates and their younger brothers and sisters to join in, supervise each other to help everyone increase their motivation for learning.

The last point is judgment. Judge what is the most important thing at a certain stage. Abandon the unimportant things and concentrate on the important things.

Cooperation and communication are particularly important in universities, especially on the road of scientific research.
Entering the University and later learning stage, we are no longer only learning knowledge from teachers, everyone around us is our learning object. Everyone's thinking angle and field are different. What's more, in the process of communication, they will inspire each other with some new ideas.
Cooperation and exchange in all aspects of learning and life. Before the final examination, we work together to organize review notes; many courses require us to cooperate to complete a display, a paper, a research plan; after tea and dinner, we work together to discuss the scientific research issues of interest; when preparing for summer research application and doctor application, we rehearse interviews with each other, exchange interview experience, and make it reasonable Division of labor, understanding of partners and listening to suggestions from multiple parties are the key to cooperation.

During the University, Jiang Lifei arranged her holidays in a compact and substantial way.

During the summer vacation of sophomore year, Jiang Lifei had a scientific research training in the laboratory of Zijingang, Zhejiang University, and took part in a week-long summer training course of neural and cognitive science of Peking University Tsinghua Life Science Joint Center. In this training course, she studied and lived with excellent students from all over the country and had a further understanding of her scientific research interest.

During her third winter vacation, she participated in the winter camp of the University of Edinburgh and experienced the unique Scottish style and special food. She rowed for the first time and climbed the snow mountain for the first time. She also listened to a lot of lectures on biomedical related career choices, and further thought about her future.

During her junior summer vacation, she participated in the summer exchange program of the Department of molecular biology of Zhejiang University Princeton University. This summer research in Princeton broadened her horizon, she met advanced research programmes, met many students who love scientific research, realized the fun of research, and strengthened her determination to do scientific research.

Suggestions from Lifei
In general, we only have three summer vacations: freshmen, sophomores and juniors, to do long-term scientific research. I think the best arrangement is to participate in a scientific research project in ZJU's laboratory in the summer vacation of freshman year and go to overseas laboratories in the summer vacation of sophomore year and junior year. The longer each period of scientific research experience is, the better. The scientific research experience of no less than 3 months will be better. Winter vacation can also do scientific research, but the time is relatively short. I suggest that winter vacation can be used to prepare for TOEFL GRE, which is also helpful for applying for summer research. For the language test, my suggestion is to concentrate on preparation in a short period of time, and the effect will be better.

Research is my love and dream
Like many people, at the time of entering the University, Jiang Lifei was confused about what she wanted to do in the future.
The best way to answer that question, she said, is to try.
First of all, through reading the review and literature, we can have a certain understanding of several major directions, look for opportunities and face-to-face communication with professors, and preliminarily judge whether we can accept this research direction. By joining a laboratory, I really participate in a scientific research project. Through the courses, academic lectures, papers and projects in the past few years, we will gradually form our own knowledge framework, have enough knowledge to compare, and finally find out what direction is the best choice for ourselves.
It is important for us to invest in every scientific research experience, have a deep understanding, constantly cultivate scientific research thinking, and be good at catching what we like.

Thank you for meeting you. I found myself
Finally, when asked if you didn't choose ZJE, where would you be?
"I'm glad that I didn't blindly choose the majors with good employment prospects and big money, I listened to my heart and chose the one that suits me," said Lifei. I'm very lucky to meet ZJE and biomedical science. Here, I calmly explore what I like, meet a group of like-minded partners, find a career I love, and find myself. "
