Our entry requirements vary depending on your programme and level you choose and your country of residence.
Admission onto this programme will be via a competitive application process administered by the Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute (ZJU-UoE Institute) in accordance with the Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh admissions policy. Applications will be considered according to the academic merit of the candidate.
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
An undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK 2:1, or its international equivalent, in biomedical sciences or related subject. Applicants should provide copies of their degree certificate and academic transcript (or an interim transcript if the applicant has not yet finished their undergraduate programme). Applicants may hold a Master’s degree, but this is not a requirement.
There are no Chinese language proficiency requirements for applicants, but applicants must meet the minimum English language requirements.
Applicants who are nationals of a majority English-speaking country (Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, UK, USA and Canada) will be deemed to meet the Institute’s requirements for English language competency.
The Institute accepts previous undergraduate or postgraduate degree-level study, including Masters programmes, which have been taught and assessed in English in a majority English-speaking country, as evidence of English language proficiency. The award date should be no more than three and a half years prior to the start date of the PhD programme. Applicants whose qualification is older than this will be considered on a case by case basis.
All other applicants must meet these requirements by providing one of the English language certificates listed:
IELTS Academic: total 6.5 (at least 6.0 in each component)
TOEFL-iBT: total 92 (at least 20 in each section)
PTE(A): total 61 (at least 56 in each of the "Communicative Skills" sections)
CAE and CPE: total 176 (at least 169 in each paper)
Trinity ISE: ISE II with distinction in all four components
- Applicants will be required to meet additional requirements for visa entry to China.
