Professor Ouyang Hongwei, Dean of Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute, was inducted as fellow of The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE College of Fellows class of 2020) for his pioneering work in tissue engineering, biomaterials and sports medicine. 156 scientists in the world were elected in 2020.
The induction ceremony was originally scheduled to be held at the American Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C., on March 30, 2020. However, due to the current global special situation, it was announced online.

About Prof. Hongwei Ouyang
Professor Hongwei Ouyang is Dean of ZJU-UoE Institute, Vice Dean of ZJU School of Medicine, Vice Dean of ZJU International Campus, Honorary Professor, The University of Edinburgh, The “Qiu-shi” Distinguished Professor, Zhejiang University. He is also the awardee of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars(Jie-Qin)
He devotes himself to multidisciplinary research and education for musculoskeletal system restoration and regeneration, leading the team to make outstanding progress in the field of regenerative medicine.
In the last 10 years, he has initiated and demonstrated the first clinical application of tissue-engineered cartilage transplantation technology and has accelerated the translational research of innovative silk medical implants in China. He has established a research system of multidisciplinary intersection and upstream-downstream integration and has promoted the development of joint surgery from replacement to regeneration.
