[Biomed-X Seminar No. 120] Professor Chonglin Yang from Yunnan University shared the metabolic damage of mitochondria

2024-11-25

On the afternoon of November 19, 2024, the Biomed-X Seminar No. 120 of Zhejiang University-University of Edinburgh Institute was successfully held at A123, ZJE Building. Invited by researcher Zhi Hong, Professor Chonglin Yang, Dean of the School of Life Sciences of Yunnan University, gave an academic report on "Understanding metabolic damage of mitochondria", and Lan Yang, a doctoral student of ZJE, presided over the report meeting.

Professor Yang's team has used the nematode C. elegans as a model, and through non-preferential mutant screening and gene cloning, discovered important genes regulating mitochondrial structure, function, fusion-division and other mitochondrial homeostasis maintenance, and carried out research from multiple perspectives, such as genetic interactions, gene expression, protein localisation and function, mitochondrial structure and function, mitochondrial metabolism, etc., to reveal the effects of mitochondrial homeostasis, metabolism, and interactions between mitochondria and other organelles on cell homeostasis and function, and reveal the role of mitochondria in inherited metabolic diseases.

During the event, faculty and students actively engaged in discussions, demonstrating their open-minded approach to academic exploration and critical thinking about research questions. Professor Yang patiently and thoroughly answered every question, deepening the understanding and insights of participants in this field.

As the 120th session of the Biomed-X Seminar series, this report underscores the institute's commitment to fostering high-level academic exchanges through its academic brand building efforts. The institute will continue to provide a platform for faculty and students to engage in cutting-edge scientific discussions.
